Topic 3: Hembree Ancestral Home For Sale
I see that "St. Nicholas Abbey" in St. Peter, Barbados, built in the 1650s, is on the market again. They're
only asking $7 million. But it's just got 7 bedrooms. The way I look at it, that's a million a bedroom. I know there's much
more, but that's just too steep for me right now. Maybe some Hembree descendants could talk them down just a bit. It would
be nice if some cousin would buy it and keep it in the family. And let all of us come visit on vacation.

This is the line or the supposed line to Old John Hembree:
1. Col. Benjamin Berringer b. c1611-20, d. 1659-61 at St. Nicholas Abbey, St. Peter, Barbados, West Indies +
Margaret Foster (Forster, Forester) who m.2 sir John Yeamans, baronet (later Gov. of S.C.)
2. Margaret Berringer b c1659 d 17 June 1720 S.C. + James Moore
b. 1640 in Ireland, Governor of S.C.
3. Col. John Moore b. c1680/88-1729 + wife (mother of Chief Wauhatchee/Warhatchie of the Keowee tribe)
4. Mary Moore b. c1721
+1 Thomas Ayers, Indian agent
+2 John Amory from England, bur at Charleston, S.C.
5. Old John Hembree b. 1744 Perrysburg, S.C.
Like so much of Native American genealogy, the lack of records means a lack of proof for the parents of Mary
Moore Ayers Hembree, the half-breed. Piecing the line together from various postings and gedcoms on the Internet, there are
two other possible versions of the lineage (who knows which is right):
3. Col. John Moore b. c1680/88-1729 + Keowee wife
4. James Moore b. c1700 + Keowee wife
5. Mary Moore b. c1721
+1 Thomas Ayers, Indian agent
+2 John Amory from England, bur at Charleston, S.C.
6. Old John Hembree b. 1744 Perrysburg, S.C.
And another:
2. Margaret Berringer + Governor James Moore I
3. Governor James Moore II (1702 - 1772) + Keowee wife
4. Mary Moore b. c1721
+1 Thomas Ayers, Indian agent
+2 John Amory from England, bur at Charleston, S.C.
5. Old John Hembree b. 1744 Perrysburg, S.C.
(I hope I have that right; maybe not. Corrections, please)

"A CRANE'S FOOT"- or Pedigree of the Gregg, Stuart, Robertson, Dobbs and Allied Families: by E. Stuart Gregg,
Jr., publ. by the R.L. Bryan Co., Columbia, SC 1975, is said to give Governor Moore's ancestry. A researcher stated on the
Internet: "In The Dictionary of American Biography, Vol. XIII Page 127, it states that James Moore married Margaret Berrien
(SIC)*, the daughter of Lady Yeamans, and the step-daughter of Sir John Yeamans."

Shelbyville’s Lauren Grissom is the 2006 Miss Tennessee USA.
Sixty-five women from across the state came to Austin Peay State University’s Music Mass Communication
building concert hall for the competition Saturday.
The pageant, which was sold out, included an evening gown and swimwear competition, and the top five participants
had to answer a question they pulled from a fish bowl. The questions were written by fellow contestants.
In addition to Grissom, the top 15 included Andrea Greenway, Katie Hoppel, Stephanie Watson, Randi Armour,
Hailey Brown, Stephanie Allison, Jennifer Scott, Leah Watson, Karmen Cordell, Lauren Lowrey, Casey Porter, Erin Thacker, Britney
Petway and Jenny Buffington.
Porter of Rock Island was the first runner-up, and Brown of Williamson County was second runner-up.
The third runner-up was Cordell, and the fourth runner-up was Stephanie Watson.
The Miss Congeniality award was given to Erica Hembree, and Ashley Widener was named Most Photogenic.
Jennifer Scott was given the People’s Choice Award, which was determined by audience members’
votes.
Pageant Executive Director Kim Greenwood, a former Miss Tennessee, applauded the contestants for their hard work and
determination.
